POTOW
POTOW — People of the Old Ways — is inspired by a biblical verse and speaks of returning to our roots, honoring the wisdom and traditions of the past
The Ruins Left Behind
When people left villages for the cities, they left behind empty homes, abandoned fields, and fading traditions. These places are quiet now, but they carry the weight of generations who lived and worked there.
A Time of Decline
We live in a period of societal breakdown. Communities that once thrived are breaking apart. The values of faith and family are forgotten. Skills and customs that held people together are disappearing. Many feel we are approaching the end of an era — perhaps even the end of life as we have known it.
The Modern Dilemma
The modern world offers comfort and convenience, but it moves at a pace that erodes connection. It replaces community with isolation, nature with concrete, and purpose with distraction. The backdrop is increasingly apocalyptic — environmental collapse, political instability, and widening social divides.
Holding Past and Present Together
Our work is about finding balance. We believe the old and the new can coexist — that not everything from the past should be lost, and not everything from the present should be rejected. Through our art, we hold both in the same frame: the resilience of the past and the urgency of the present.
A Family Effort
POTOW is a collaboration between father and son, combining two generations’ perspectives on a changing world. The work we produce is shaped not only by our shared vision but also by the quiet, steady support of our entire family — from those who help prepare canvases to those who encourage us at every stage. It is a shared journey, and every piece carries that family spirit.
What Remains
We are not painting the end of the world, we are painting what remains — and the choices we still have before more is gone.
An Invitation
We create these works to share our vision, our concerns, and our hope. Whether you discover us online or meet us in person at an exhibition, we invite you to stand with us for a moment, look closely, and see what remains worth carrying forward.
“Thus says the LORD: “Stand in the ways and see, And ask for the old paths, where the good way is, And walk in it”
